Cigar Cutters - The Importance of Choosing Good Cigar Cutters
While many cigar smokers will argue over what they consider to be the most
important cigar smoking accessory, few of them will disagree with the statement that out of all of the
accessories, cigar cutters are among the most important.
These easy to find devices come in a wide variety of styles to fit every standard size of cigar and whether you
smoke cigars regularly or only on an occasional basis, you should never be without a cigar cutter.
One thing to consider when you are looking at cigar
cutters is to make sure that you do not waste your money on an inexpensive one. Buying a low cost cutter
can ruin your cigars with a dull blade that will not cut properly.
A cigar is made from dried tobacco leaves as an outside wrapper surrounding the shredded tobacco inside. The
quality of the cigar you are cutting is dependent upon the size and on the way it was wrapped as it was being
made.
To find which of the many different types of cigar cutters is the best choice for you, you first need to
understand what a good cigar cutter is and what it is supposed to do. The job of the cigar cutter is to cut a small
round hole in the end of your cigar, the more perfectly shaped the hole is the smoother you will be able to draw on
your cigar as you smoke it, which will enhance your entire smoking experience. On the other hand if you opt for
one of the less expensive cigar cutters it may actually damage the end of your
cigar and ruin your chances of properly enjoying the full smoking experience. For a new cigar smoker it may
be hard to notice the difference between a badly cut cigar and one that has been perfectly snipped. Once you
have had the chance smoke one that has been cut properly you will most certainly see the difference and not
want to risk ruining an expensive cigar by using a poor quality cigar cutter.
There are several different styles of cigar cutters available today and each of them can be used with success
depending on the size and style of cigar that you smoke.
The guillotine style of cigar cutter works just the way it sounds, by using one or two blades that move in a
vertical direction to cut off the tip of your cigar. The best of these are table top models that are perfect for
any size of cigar, but have the disadvantage of not being portable. You can buy portable guillotines that fit in
your pocket that will still do the job.
Cigar Scissors
The other styles of cigar cutters are the scissors which just like their name are a pair of very sharp scissors
that can be used on small and medium sized cigars. These have the added advantage of being small enough to fit into
your pocket so that you can take them anywhere with you. Lastly there is the cigar punch which,
while it is technically not a cutter still punches a small round hole in the end of your cigar and can be most
useful for very wide cigars.
However you cut the end off of your cigar the most important thing to remember is that the cutter you choose
should not cause any damage to the cigar ruining your smoking pleasure.
